Baumkuchen Made with Tsuchiyama Matcha

It is said that the origins of Tsuchiyama tea date back to Bunwa 5 (1356) during the Nanboku-chō period, when a monk named Don’ō from Jōmyō-ji Temple in Minami-Tsuchiyama brought tea seeds back from Enryaku-ji Temple on Mount Hiei and cultivated them at the temple. Thanks to a climate and soil well-suited to tea cultivation, as well as the fact that the tea grows slowly at high altitudes in the mountains—allowing it to mature thoroughly—this prized tea remains a major product of Tsuchiyama Town, which is still a major production center for Omi tea today.
The Baumkuchen made with matcha from Tsuchiyama offers an exquisite balance of moistness and fluffiness. We also carry a plain flavor in addition to the matcha variety.
